Free, one-on-one support designed to assist rural and small business owners who are experiencing mental health or emotional wellbeing stress.
A free, impartial service for rural and small business throughout North Queensland.
Business Wellness Coaches can help you work through your personal and business challenges, needs and opportunities – in a free one-on-one, confidential, understanding environment, in collaboration with a Rural or Small Business Financial Counsellor, or independently. Appointments can be face-to-face, via video conferencing, or telephone.
We can help you to identify the source of your challenges and create strategies to enable you to move forward.
How we help

Your Wellness Coach has a background in business, combined with a qualification in social work, psychology, social science, mental health, related field or equivalent experience.
This enables your Wellness Coach to provide honest and realistic support on a person-to-person basis.
Note: The support provided by a Business Wellness Coach is not clinical and does not include subscribing medical aids. If it is identified that your needs exceed the support available from a Coach, you shall be referred to an appropriately licensed clinician.

A Business Wellness Coach can support you with personal emotional coaching in collaboration with your Rural or Small Business Financial Counsellor, or independently.
Appointments can be face-to-face, via video conferencing, or telephone.

This support is designed to assist rural and small business owners who are experiencing mental health or emotional wellbeing stress. No referral is required.
To be eligible, applicants must:
have fewer than 20 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs)
have less than $10 million in annual turnover
have an active Australian business number (ABN)
have their small business as your primary income source (i.e. 50% or more of the total income), or have a recent record of it being their primary income source and the potential to do so again
be based in Queensland
have owners/directors that are not insolvent or are an undischarged bankrupt.

The early warning signs to identify if you may be experiencing stress include:
Having trouble concentrating
Not meeting deadlines
Not working to your usual standards
Withdrawing from staff
Feeling less engaged than usual
Feeling worthless or like a failure
Being absent from work
Feeling irritable, nervous, angry, anxious or worried
Feeling depressed or low in energy
Having trouble sleeping
Sleeping too much
Waking up and having difficulty getting back to sleep
Experiencing weight or appetite changes
Consuming more alcohol or other substances
Withdrawing from friends and family
Experiencing panic attacks
Having emotional or aggressive outbursts
Engaging in destructive behaviour
Support for disaster impacted small business - TC Jasper
Dedicated support is available for North Queensland small businesses in defined disaster areas that experienced direct or indirect disaster impacts from Tropical Cyclone Jasper and associated flooding from 13 to 28 December 2023, to re-establish operations, maintain employment, and become more resilient for future disaster events.
The program provides additional small business wellness coaches and financial counsellors in impacted areas.
